Tips for Healthy Skin

November 25, 2016

Our skin is the largest organ in our body. As such, it requires a lot more attention than it typically gets in order to stay healthy. Follow these recommendations from the skin care professionals to keep your skin healthy and vibrant.

The number one recommendation by skin care professionals is to keep skin hydrated. The skin is made up of water and needs constant hydration to maintain hydration and elasticity. Several large glasses of water a day are recommended. Waiting until you’re thirsty often means that the skin has begun to dehydrate.  Both coffee and alcohol serve to dehydrate skin. Limit intake of these for the healthiest skin. Make a habit of applying lotion over your entire body after showering to capture moisture and protect your skin throughout the day. This is especially important in the cooler, dryer seasons.

One of the best ways to increase blood flow and allow skin sufficient oxygen is to exercise on a daily bases. Take advantage of the discounts offered by Groupon and invest in a pair of work out shoes from Road Runner Sports and get moving!  Brisk walks hikes or runs all increase oxygen flow. Your skin will thank you.

Exposure to the sun’s rays causes untold damage to the skin. Wear protective clothing and a hat with a visor to protect the skin from the sun’s rays. Apply sunscreen throughout the day even in the winter months. Regardless of the temperature, the sun’s rays can cause serious damage to the skin. Pay special attention to the delicate skin of the face. This requires an application of sunscreen formulated for the delicate, thin skin of the face.

Finally, commit to getting at least seven hours of sleep each night. This is the opportunity for the skin to rejuvenate. Follow these recommendations from the professionals and you’ll be on your way to developing a lifetime of healthy skin habits.
