How to Recover Quickly After a Tough Workout

April 22, 2019

While a strenuous workout can bring on endorphins and promote a sense of well-being, a few hours after the workout can bring on pain and discomfort. Have you ever tried walking up stairs after doing a hard leg workout? It doesn’t get much more unpleasant than that. The key is to find ways to recover quickly after exercise so all of that soreness can disappear and you can get ready for the next day’s training. If you do these things listed below in a timely manner, those aches and pains will vanish and you can get on with your day.

A Banana a Day

We have always heard that an apple a day can keep the doctor away. However, a banana a day can have health benefits as well. One banana will not only provide energy since it contains carbohydrates, but it will also get your muscles repairing themselves. It has potassium and electrolytes so it will reduce soreness and cramping quickly. Making a habit of eating one banana after a workout will get you feeling better in no time.

Hot or Cold?

There are those that take a cold bath to recover from a workout. There are those that take a hot shower to ease the pain in their muscles. Which way is best? It depends on preference. But combining the two could be your best bet for recovery. If you are interested in such a thing, the thermal experience is a must-have. The thermotherapy originated in Scandinavia and is all about alternating between hot and cold temperatures. Not only does it provide relaxation, but it promotes a healthy well-being.

Don’t Forget the Stretching

Many people will stretch before a workout, but the most benefit could come stretching after exercising instead. When you stretch after exercise, you are easing up on muscle tightness and also maintaining flexibility. Taking a few minutes to perform some proper stretching at the end of the workout can help you greatly in the long run.

Drink Lots of Fluids

A little dehydration can make the toughest man collapse and cry like a baby. Just ask LeBron James. He can tell you all about it. When your fluids are low, it does no good for your body. Making sure that you drink plenty during and after your workout will ensure that you are on the road to muscle recovery.
