When travelling, isn’t it important that we get to make the most of our trip? It is often said that you can notice a good traveller by how light he or she travels. No one really wants to be struggling with one, two or maybe even three suitcases! Some people think that they “need” to pack for the worst-case scenario, but shouldn’t we pack for the best-case scenario? Remember, you only really need the basics and the kitchen sink is never required. The following tips will help you on your way to getting the most out of packing light.
Make a Checklist!
First things first, make a checklist. Creating a checklist for any situation helps us determine what we need or what we have to do. What you need to do is make a list of what you think you will need, then from there you can gather what you have on your list and determine what you need to bring with you.
Clothes
We all need to bring clothes with us when we travel, whether it is for two weeks, two months or longer. One tip regarding clothes is to bring enough for one week. This could be up to three or four sets, excluding the outfit you have on. The reason for this is that you will need to wash your clothes after a week and still have a set to wear. To be more efficient you could wash your clothes as often as you can that way you will not run out. Your everyday clothes won’t be the cleanest clothes, so a good idea is bring an extra outfit for evening time.
Shoes
Shoes are very important as they can take up most space in your bag. Bring at least two pairs of shoes in case anything happens to one pair. If you bring one pair of shoes in your bag and wear the other you will be saving a lot of space. If you think you will be going anywhere fancy bring an extra pair, if not then there is no need.
Toiletries
We all think we are going to need a vast amount of toiletries when we travel, which is not the case. You can buy the travel sized toiletries to do you for a short while, but when you reach your destination you can buy what you need. Most items are sold worldwide so you don’t have to worry.
Gadgets?
Yes, gadgets. When we are travel we all like to bring some piece of technology. It is important that you have them kept safe so that they don’t get damaged. You can bring an extra bag but you can also pack them in your backpack, the clothes should give them enough protection.
The above are just a few tips for travelling light and everyone will always shave their own ideas. If you are going on a long trip you should now know what to bring with you to your destination. Although these tips do apply to those who are travelling for a significant amount of time it may not apply to those who are just going on an annual holiday.
