The Great Maya Reef is just off the coast from Playa Mujeres and is a sight to astonish even the most seasoned travelers. Strap on your oxygen tanks, put your mask on, and splash into the clear water to swim with the tropical fish. Don’t expect to see the reef all in one go though, it is the second largest reef in the world. The friendly fish you meet will keep you coming back time after time.
For those that aren’t scuba certified, snorkeling is an option. The extra brave can even snorkel with whale sharks. Just don’t add yourself the dinner menu.
Food Tour
Take yourself on a self-guided food tour and get a real taste of the Mexican culture that Playa Mujeres has in abundance. Make sure you add food truck tacos, tequila tastings and traditional bean burritos to your ‘must try’ list. Be care of the spice, it may have you saying “Ole!” all the way home.
Soak Up Some Vitamin D
Playa Mujeres is best known for its stellar beaches. The miles of coastline mean you’ll be sure to find a spot to lay your towel. If working on your backswing is part of your vacation goals, this area is calling your name. Some of the best golf courses in the region can be found in Playa Mujeres. Visit Ancient Ruins
Some of the best known pyramids in Mexico call Playa Mujeres home. As you walk through the Chichen Itza complex, you’ll find sanctuary from hot sun under the leafy trees. The various tropical birds will sing you songs you will hear long after you leave. If you are brave enough, head up to the top of the Temple of the Warrior pyramid for a spectacular view. With the wind blowing in your hair and the beautiful paradise around you, don’t be surprised if you never want to go home.
